Couples Counseling

It is our view that when a couple faces problems, they are problems of the relationship, and as such, both partners are responsible for solving them. Both partners participate in the upset and the arguments, the attacks and the counterattacks.  It has been our experience that success in counseling is best achieved when both partners take it on faith that they are each contributing to their woes and proceed as if the problem was equally owned.  In that sense, both are right and both are wrong and there are no villians and/or victims.

The Goal of Counseling

-
Research shows us that having a successful relationship has more to do with responding well when our partner is being selfish or inconsiderate, than avoiding those behaviors in the first place.  Our focus in working with couples is on what each partner themselves can do, rather than waiting for what the partner should do.

The Purpose of Counseling

-

The purpose of our work together is to increase your ability to respond to your partner in ways that move your relationship towards satisfaction and success.  Your relationship will change for the better as you each improve your ability to have a positive impact on your partner.  You will come to believe that to a large extent, the future of your relationship is in your own hands.
